NamibRand Nature Reserve
Although the NamibRand Nature Reserve (NRNR) is primarily responsible for managing these activities, Wolwedans plays a crucial role in providing financial and human resources support and partakes in almost all of the ongoing conservation activities of the Reserve. The conservation arm (managed by NRNR) is separated from the commercial arm (Wolwedans and other concessionaires) because this ensures conservation cannot be undermined by commercial priorities. Specifically, we participate in the following joint conservation activities on the Reserve; rain gauge meter reading, game counts, game capture, de-fencing, road maintenance, removal of alien plant species, veldfire management and special projects like the Adopt-a-Fairy-Circle, an initiative of the NamibRand Conservation Foundation.
We are personally involved in: the Greater Sossusvlei Namib Complex Association (GSNC), the Large Carnivore Management Association of Namibia (LCMAN), the Namibia Nature Foundation (NNF), the Namibian Environment and Wildlife Society (NEWS), the Agreement with Wilderness Safaris Namibia in 2009 to drop fences, the Protected Areas Association of Namibia (PAN), and the Protected Landscape Conservation Areas (PLCA).
